The townsite is located at 40°24′25″N 103°28′17″W / 40.4069°N 103.4713°W / 40.4069; -103.4713 (Balzac) at an elevation of 4,105 feet (1,251 m).[1]
The community most likely was named after Honoré de Balzac, a French novelist.[2]
