Myloplus sauron is a species of fish that is in the family Serrasalmidae. The fish was discovered alongside Myloplus aylan.[1] The species of fish is restricted to the Xingu River.[2]

Etymology

The name sauron is named after Sauron, the main antagonist of the fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings.[2] The naming of the fish is due to the vertical black band on the fish resembling the vertical-pupilled eye of Sauron.[3][4]
