Tapahtumia
- 7. toukokuuta – Tukholman kuninkaanlinna Tre Kronor tuhoutui tulipalossa. Mukana paloi suuri osa kuninkaallisesta kirjastosta ja valtionarkistosta.
- Christopher Polhem perusti Ruotsin ensimmäisen teknisen koulun Tukholmaan nimellä Laboratorium mechanicum.
- Arkeologi Henry Maundrell löysi Nahr el-Kalbin steelat Libanonista. Niiden hieroglyfitekstit ovat Egyptin Ramses II:n ajalta ja nuolenpäätekstit Uus-Babylonian kaudelta. Lisäksi on tekstejä myöhemmiltä ajoilta.
