Cometă periodică
O cometă periodică este acea cometă care a fost observată la mai mult decât un periheliu și / sau care are o perioadă inferioară a 200 de ani.
Cometele periodice nu primesc desemnări numerice înainte de a fi observate la mai mult de un periheliu. În aproape toate cazurile, cometele sunt numite după descoperitorii lor (în alte cazuri, cum sunt 2P/Encke și 27P/Crommelin, este vorba de persoana care le-a calculat orbita). Orbitele cometelor periodice sunt deosebit de dificil de calculat din cauza perturbațiilor posibile ale planetelor. Dar chiar în acest caz, traseul unor comete periodice poate fi pierdut în urma unei degazări sau unei fragmentări.
