Byn hade 14 393 invånare år 2021.^[1] Honley var en civil parish 1866–1938 när blev den en del av Holmefirth.^[2] Civil parish hade 4 611 invånare år 1931.^[3] Honley var ett distrikt 1894–1938 när blev den en del av Holmfirth.^[4] Byn nämndes i Domedagsboken (Domesday Book) år 1086, och kallades då Hanlei(a).^[5]
